Jacquelyn A. Ottman
Jacquelyn Ottman is the president of J. Ottman Consulting, Inc., and a green marketing professional based in New York City, NY.
J. Ottman Consulting, Inc., is a firm that she founded nearly twenty years ago to help marketing, new products, and sustainability professionals build their business, enhance their image, instill a culture of innovation, and reinforce their values though an integrated approach to eco-innovation and green marketing.
Ottman developed the Getting to Zerosm Process—the first process that integrates environmental considerations with traditional new product concept development approaches.
Ottman is the author of Green Marketing: Opportunity for Innovation, 2nd Ed. (McGraw-Hill, 1998), considered by the American Marketing Association to be "the definitive work on the subject." It was named one of the top business books of the year and has been translated into six languages. She writes regular columns for In Business magazine, GreenBiz.com, green@work, and publications of the Product Development and Management Association.
She has been quoted in the Wall Street Journal, Fortune, Forbes, The New York Times, and other publications. She sits on the advisory boards of the Centre for Sustainable Design (U.K.), and the Center for Small Business and the Environment in Washington, DC.
In 2004, Ottman received an Innovation Grant from the U.S. EPA to create what became known as Design:Green, an educational initiative to jump start education in eco-design in the U.S. Today, Ottman continues to teach Design:Green workshops in green design and marketing through the Minneapolis College of Art and Design’s Online Certificate Program in Sustainable Design, and the NYC-based economic development initiatives, NYDesigns and the Industrial Technology and Assistance Corporation.
She graduated from Smith College and attended New York University’s Stern School of Business.
