Ivybridge Wanderers
The Ivybridge Wanderers are a cricket team founded in mid-2006 by a group of friends in Ivybridge, South Devon. Captain Chris Parish and Vice-Captain Peter Phillips, along with friends James Hooper, Chris Maslen, Chris King and David 'Moley' Hurn were involved in the initial creation of the team. Later several other friends were encouraged to join and the Ivybridge Wanderers were formed.
Ivybridge Wanderers emphasise a strong commitment to enjoying the game over winning and contain a wide mixture of abilities. The team's formation owes much to the inspiration of Harry Thompson's book Penguins Stopped Play, which charts the founding and exploits of a cricket team made up of old school friends. The team has regular training sessions and play friendly fixtures against sides from across the South Hams. Due to the lack of a regular home ground, the team play all their games away, hence the Wanderers name. The team have a strong following and enjoy an ACTIVE social set-up.
The team is currently in its second season and plans are in motion for a future tour and an expansion of the team into new areas.
