Irfan Abidi

Allama Syed Irfan Haider Abidi, (1950-1998) was a noted Pakistani scholar, religious leader, public speaker and poet from the Shi'ite sect of Islam. He was born in 1950 in Mahala Lucman, Khairpur, Sindh.

He was the son of Syed Amir Abbas Abidi, a religious and a noted person from Khairpur. He got his primary education from Rahbar Primary School. He did matriculation and intermediate from Naaz High-school, Khairpur. After that he was moved to Karachi, He earned MA from Karachi University. He got his basic and advance religious studies from Maulana Syed Qaisar Abbas.

Allama Irfan Abidi, who holds the prestigious position of Zakir-e-Sham-e-Ghariban (speaker of the evening of sorrow & ruined) on Pakistan Television for several years. He was not only respected among the Shia community in the Indo-Pak Subcontinent but Sunnis also like to attend his lectures. On January 22, 1998 Allama Irfan Haider Abidi and his wife Syeda Saeeda Khatoon died in a traffic accident on SUPER Highway while coming from Khairpur . They were rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where Syeda Saeeda Khatoon was pronounced dead. Abidi later died at the Aga Khan Hospital. He was buried at Imambargah Khairul Amal in Ancholi, Karachi.
