InstaVolt is a British electric vehicle charging infrastructure company operating a rapid and ultra-rapid public charging network in the United Kingdom and Europe. The company was founded in 2016 and operates electric vehicle charging hubs and roadside charging locations for consumer and commercial electric vehicles.

InstaVolt installs and operates rapid direct current (DC) chargers at locations including motorway services, retail parks, restaurants and fuel forecourts. The company is one of the largest public rapid charging operators in the United Kingdom.

History

The company initially focused on deploying rapid charging infrastructure at retail and hospitality sites across the United Kingdom. Early site partners included McDonald's, Costa CoFFEE and KFC.

In 2022, Swedish investment firm EQT Infrastructure acquired InstaVolt from Zouk Capital.

Operations

InstaVolt operates rapid and ultra-rapid electric vehicle chargers across the United Kingdom. Chargers are accessible through contactless card payment and mobile application services, including third party services such as Paua Tech Limited.

The company has expanded into mainland Europe, including Portugal, Spain and Iceland.

Winchester Superhub

In 2023, InstaVolt opened a large charging hub near Winchester in Hampshire. The site includes ultra-rapid chargers, on-site battery storage and solar generation facilities.

The hub was described as one of the largest ultra-rapid charging sites in the United Kingdom at the time of opening.

Technology

InstaVolt chargers support Combined Charging System (CCS) connectors and contactless payment systems. The network uses roaming integrations with a number of electric vehicle charging platforms and fleet payment providers.
