Indonesia Design

Indonesia Design is an English bi-monthly publication founded in Jakarta in 2003 and aimed at covering a wide range of design disciplines including architecture, interior, product and lifestyle designs, related to professionals such architects and interior designers as well as students in the respective fields of design. The magazine in print concentrates on designs from across the Indonesian archipelago and beyond while its Web Site contains features of general-interest, as well.

Publication history

First published in mid 2003 as Desain Indonesia by PT. BCI Asia in Indonesian language for a primary audience of design and built professionals.

In 2004, PT. Tatanan Daya Prima took over, changed the magazine’s name to Indonesia Design, and published the third edition in English and Indonesian. The magazine has evolved from mid 2009 to 2014 to include many more design disciplines and creative lifestyle features.

Starting January 2014, Indonesia Design is published only in English with a total of 8 editions a year, which includes 6 regular editions, a Collection Edition as well as an Anniversary Edition, all with individual themes exploring the implementation of each theme in design.

Editorial

Indonesia Design publishes both in-depth and analytic features, such as how art influences design, or what motivated selected designers to pursue their respected career paths; both editorial and advertorial articles, such as those detailing design inspirations for a better lifestyle, illuminating main features, studying implementation of a selected themes on the featured design, and reviewing certain venues, hotels and restaurants. Shorter pieces provide updates on developments within the design world, while essays contain lengthier information on various topics. Contributors include a selection of professionals, both local and expatriate, within Indonesia from various fields of expertise.
