HP OpenView TeMIP
HP TeMIP Software is a family of software products for the management of communication networks and services, addressing the needs of operators of fixed, wireless, voice, data and IP networks and value-added services. It provides multi-vendor and multi-technology integration for switching, transmission, optical, and IP networks; radio and broadband access networks; and value-added services. HP TeMIP Software was previously called HP OpenView TeMIP, but HP has now withdrawn the name OpenView from the market.
HP TeMIP Software's main function is to process alarms and events coming from the network so as to allow human operators and other systems to receive a correlated and filtered view of these streams. These views allow networks and services to be managed so that they can be quickly repaired in the case of problems.
In the telecommunications world TeMIP provides prodominantly the Fault part of FCAPS. The product can also do some configuration, performance and security management.
The TeMIP Special Interest Group, an independent user's group of the product, is here: - Your Independent HP Software Users Community
History
HP TeMIP Software version 1 was released in the early 1990's by Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) with some of the code coming from the DEC MCC product also known as Polycenter. More recently version 5 was released in 2002. Sub-releases have continued, with version 5.3 coming available in June 2006 , and 5.4 a year later.
Technical data
HP TeMIP Software is based on an Object-oriented programming-based framework, where network entities, such as Router, network switch, network hub and ports, interfaces and cards within them as well as logical entities such as network services are represented as objects. The product runs on HP-UX, Sun Solaris (operating system), and can use Microsoft Windows for User Interface views. Limited versions are available on Linux. Standards supported include: OSS through Java, and MTOP MTNM from the TeleManagement Forum, Simple Network Management Protocol, Common Object Request Broker Architecture, Enterprise Application Integration as well as text and Common management information protocol.
Benefits and practical applications
All the TeMIP applications offer many customization options which allow for alignment with the network operation centers’ processes. It is possible to complete the solution with user-defined applications: the different toolkits allow developers to focus on the application code to be developed independently from TeMIP Framework concepts and architecture. The toolkits are products with the appropriate services (support, training, consulting) and documentation.
