IBM Tivoli Framework

IBM Tivoli Management Framework (TMF) is a systems management platform from IBM (previously Tivoli Systems, Inc., acquired by IBM in 1995 and moved into IBM's Software Group division). The Framework is a CORBA-based architecture that allows the platform to manage large numbers of remote locations or devices.

The framework was a kind of best-practices paradigm. Several products used the TMF but it is going to be replaced by SOA techniques over time.

Products that use TMF

  • IBM/Tivoli Enterprise Console (TEC) - Provides enterprise class event management handling and correlation. Still widely used by customers. A possible followup: IBM/Tivoli Netcool OMNIBus family.
  • IBM/Tivoli Configuration Manager - Provides hardware and software Inventory and Software Distribution capabilities. Followup as a non-TMF version or incorporated with other software with similar functionality.
  • IBM/Tivoli Remote Control - Includes VNC-like capabilities. Likely to be replaced by a non-TMF version.
