Hot Rod's BBQ & Grill
Hot Rod's BBQ & Grill is a barbecue restaurant in Lutz, Florida known for its folksy decor, wood smoked BBQ meats, and quirky offerings such as redneck prime rib (spam) and smoked bat. A local landmark it includes a patio with rocking chairs, inside seating, and picnic tables in the back, where live music is regularly scheduled. A produce stand shares the front of the property. It is decorated with a lot of "early junk" as well as a Victorian gazebo with climbing vines. "I'm Cajun, but my wife is Victorian, so I put that there for her," owner Rod Gaudin said. "That'll be the place to have a redneck wedding."
Gaudin established a country store on the property in 1993 and Hot Rod's on the same property in 1998. The bat is a Peruvian fruit bat. Hot Rod's also offers a BBQ sundae lunch special with pickles instead of bananas and scoops of cole slaw and pulled pork. Patch.com celebrated its arrival in Lutz with a party at Hot Rod's in 2012. Steve Inskeep from NPR's Morning EDition reported from Lutz and Hot Rod's August 6, 2012 in coverage AbOUT the economic backdrop of the 2012 presidential election.
