Hemalatha Prakash

Hemalatha Prakash is an exponent of the Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattam Indian dance styles. Commonly known as Hema, she was initiated into classical dance at 7 years. Having been inducted into both the styles of Mohiniattam and Bharathanatyam under Guru Smt. Jayanthi Thyagarajan, Hemalatha went on to complete her board level exams in Bharathanatyam under the guidance of senior artist and exponent Guru Kalamandalam Usha Datar, and also simultaneously underwent training in Mohiniyattam from her. Hemalatha joined the Nrithyakalamandiram of Guru B. Bhanumathi and performed in Bharathanjali, Bhanumati’s renowned group dance feature, not only in India but also in the USA at many centers like Atlanta, Dallas, and Omaha. She was the “Cultural Committee Chairperson of the Indian Association of Nebraska, USA” for the year 2000-2001, she had a dance school in Omaha, Nebraska under which she trained around 50 students and completed arangetrams. Besides this she was instrumental in conducting various programs under the aegis of the Indian Association of Nebraska. She also organized various dance workshops. As the founder of Shruthilaya she has successfully trained four students in completing their arangetram as well trained around 50 students for the Board level dance examinations.
