Heavy Jack

Heavy Jack is an independent rock band from British Columbia, Canada, formed in 2005 . The band consists of Ben Falk (lead vocals & guitar), Adam Falk (bass guitar), and Jon Falk (drums & percussion).

2005–2006: Soup

Heavy Jack recorded late September 2005 at Turtle Studios in White Rock, BC to start production for their debut album. Although there was a mis-communication between the engineer and Heavy Jack, the band tracked 27 songs live off the floor which were eventually sorted through and the five best tracks from the session were released as the Soup EP. It was around this time that Heavy Jack began preparing the songs for what eventually become Heavy Jack - Multiply.

2007-2008: Multiply

Mid-2006 Heavy Jack went to Digital Sound Magic to get Soup mastered for replication. Richard Dolmat after hearing Soup approached Heavy Jack to record a full length album. As 2007 began Heavy Jack finished off the arrangements for the songs and started recording at Digital Sound Magic . Early on in the sessions Richard Dolmat asked to sign on as co-producer in addition to being the engineer. Although their debut album took only 90 hours to track and mix, a series of events with the drummer (including a broken finger, sprained ankle, and an Appendicectomy) delayed the process and the album was recorded at key sessions during the bulk of 2007 and into 2008. By May 2008 Heavy Jack Multiply was finally mastered, mixed, and ready for production.

However the album was not done yet - there was no art direction or album cover designed. Heavy Jack called on their buddy Duke Floss to help create the visual look of the album. Duke Floss is an artist out of the lower mainland British Columbia who Adam had met while unloading a truck at a day job in Port Coquitlam. After finding a common ground in music & film, Adam recruited Duke to design the website and album artwork for Heavy Jack Multiply.

The resulting weeks between May 2008 and July 2008 were described by Duke as an intense eye-opener for deadlines. Duke & Adam worked closely together during this time and taking inspiration from the work of Tim Burton, 80's B-Movies, and Ralph Steadman they started to design the artwork. According to Adam Falk the defining moment for the artwork came when Duke burst into the room with a blue Bic pen which he claimed to have stolen from Salvador Dalí in the early 80s. Although this was later discredited after the artwork was finished and Duke admitted that it was just an ordinary Bic pen.

The album artwork was finished early and Heavy Jack went to the local company Spin Digital Media for production of the CD. Multiply was released July 4, 2008 and the entire album debuted on Audio-Surf Radio that weekend .

Heavy Jack have since started work on their untitled follow-up to Multiply but have no concrete plans for a release date yet.

2009: Re-Release

Since the beginning of 2009 Heavy Jack have been getting excellent feedback from the Independent Press on the internet, as well as from fans on music charting sites such as StereoFame.

On February 5, 2009 Heavy Jack re-released their album for free download on their website and are encouraging those who download it to spread the link, torrent the album, and generally help get the word out.

Musical Style

In the studio Heavy Jack produce hard-edge Rock & Roll in the vein of Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Pink Floyd, and The Tragically Hip with a keen interest in blues, alternative methods of studio production, and sound blending.

When they play live they play in a hard-hitting rock trio format with an instinct for proper sound dynamics and presentation. They play a wealth of originals & covers that they usually change up on the fly regardless of rehearsal or the set list.
