Frederick was born May 16 1953 in Youngstown, Ohio. Greg is third of four sons of George and Thelma Frederick. He attended Youngstown State University and Dana School of Music.
As a teenager Frederick played bass guitar in north-east Ohio regional rock bands (Odyssey, Almost Home, The Maxx) and was the road manager for Warner Brothers recording artists, The Insights.
Greg moved to Los Angeles in 1972 and played with regional music groups appearing at the Whiskey A Go Go, The Roxy and Coconut Grove. Recruited by Bay Area favorites The Turkey Brothers Greg moved to Carmel California. The Turkey Brothers members included Black Uhuru guitarists Barry Reynolds.
NEW ORLEANS Moving to New Orleans Frederick became a Merchant Marine and earned a Class A Tankerman’s Certificate and worked in the oil industry several years. Greg continued to perform in New Orleans and appeared at the famed Preservation Hall, Pete Fountain Night Club and Tipitina’s Uptown.
CARMEL Frederick moved back to Carmel and while working with Costar Productions and later with Mojo Media as an audio engineer and cameraman started his career in television. His first national program was Jason Hervey’s Wide World of Kids. Greg began shooting and producing news segments for all of the major networks and worked as a stringer for the new cable networks including Entertainment Tonight, Inside Edition, Fox and CNN. Segments included interviews and coverage of Pope Paul’s American visit, The Monterey Jazz Festival and music videos and coverage of Laguna Seca and the AT&T Pro/Am Golf Tournament for ESPN. Greg won several advertising industry awards and became President of the Monterey Ad Council
NICKEL AND A NAIL Upon moving back to the Central Coast Greg continued to play music and was founder of the band Nickel and a Nail which included former Pablo Cruise/ It’s A Beautiful Day singer and Bass player Bud Cockrel, Keyboardist Danny Abrams from the Walter Trout Band, drummer Al Santana and former Snail guitarist Bob O’Neil. N&N played the The Monterey Blues Festival six consecutive years and were the featured artists in 1996. N&N also appeared at The Monterey Jazz Festival two years. This band shared the stage with Lavelle White, Johnny Heartsman, Eric Burdon, Sista Monica, Walter Trout, Patty Labelle, The Brothers Johnson, Spyro Gyro, Acoustic Alchemy, Dennis Chambers, Victor Wooten, Gene Harris, Pete Escovedo, Ben Sidran, Phil Upchurc, Bobby Hutcherson and Jessica Wlliams.
BIGTIME COMMUNICATIONS Frederick created BigTime Communications in Pacific Grove California in 1989. BigTime provided television and film production services that included production management, production crews, Grip, cameras and expendables to major production companies including IMAX, Ridley Scott Films, Propaganda Films, The Late Show With David Letterman, Malpaso Films (Clint Eastwood) and independent production companies shooting music videos (Amy Mann, Melissa Ethridge, Mr. Big, Burning Daylight), national commercials and news segments for national networks and cable news. News segment interviews included Presidents Ford, Carter and Reagan, Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, Astronaut Allen Shepard. BigTime received ten industry awards. '''''' THE PBS YEARS= In 1997 upon selling BigTime Greg took a position as a producer for PBS working from a PBS affiliate in Southern Oregon for nine years.
Frederick produced and directed over 200 productions including:
- Crater Lake: Mirror of Heaven
- This program was one of the first true High Definition documentaries. The program looks at the history and geology of North America’s deepest lake. The program is a PBS staple and airs an average of 150 times per week on the PBS system and has been seen by tens of millions of viewers

- A series of programs that looked at woman’s health issues, nutrition, cancer, fitness

- This interview based public affairs program

- Programs on Heart disease, Alzheimer’s, Diabetes and end of life issues
- The Ghosts of Rwanda
- This program looks back on the tenth anniversary of the Rwanda [...] through the eyes of Minister Carl Wilkins one of the few Americans that stayed and helped the Rwandans during this trying period. Wilkins is credited with single handedly saving the lives of thousand of Rwandans
- Air Minded City
- Documentary about the rich aviation history of the northwest includes never seen footage of early aviation.
- The Johnny Hampshire story
- The program chronicles the life and tragic death of World War Two Flying Tiger Ace Johnny Hampshire. Program included never seen footage and interviews with surviving Flying Tigers.
- Who’s Afraid Of Gustav Mahler
- This performance of Mahler’s Ninth Symphony was shot live with a multi million-dollar mobile five-camera production package. The event was presented at the famous Britt Festival outdoor amphitheater and conducted by Peter Bay.
The Rogue Suspects Today greg plays bass guitar in The Rogue Suspects which includes Dirk Price on guitar, Dean Angermeier on keyboards and David Bolen on drums. The Suspects have gained notoriety as back up band for rock legend Bo Diddley and sharing the stage with James Brown, Robert Cray, Norton Buffalo, Los Lobos, Pablo Cruise, Duke Robillard, The Rascals, Ivan Neville, Deborah Colman, Alvin Youngblood Hart, The Brubeck Brothers, Gretchen Wilson and Coco Montoya. Currently The Suspects are working with Guitarist Jeff Pevar. Pevar is a session and touring musician with groups like Crosby Stills and Nash, CPR, Marc Cohn , Ricky Lee Jones and the late Ray Charles. Pevar.com
