Green Sod Land Trust

Green Sod Land Trust (An Fóidín Glas) is an Irish charitable organisation, established in 2006 (granted charity status in 2007) with an aim to conserve and protect wild areas throughout Ireland with their indigenous animals, indigenous plants and soils for the benefit of present and future generations. It is the first Land trust of its kind established in Ireland. To date Green Sod Land Trust has been donated a five acre site located in Clonmore County Carlow where ongoing projects are being undertaken. The Trust is continuously undergoing various projects with volunteers to promote and educate people about the importance of biodiversity in Ireland and what the organisation does to achieve it. It is currently looking at various means of acquiring land with a range of communities throughout Ireland that can be used to preserve and conserve wildlife in Ireland. They also undergo fundraising events such as Mini-Marathons and organising a Christmas Fair and a Summer Fair that take place in the Nora Barnacle House in Bowling Green in Galway. The organisation is inspired by the Deep ecology and the Gaia theories. Educational Programs include the Story of the Universe for primary schools.
