Grand Central Terminal machete attack

On April 11, 2026, three people were stabbed and seriously injured with a machete in New York City's Grand Central Terminal. The attacker, a 44-year-old man, was shot dead by police. The incident was believed by police to be a random attack, and all three victims were senior citizens.

Incident

At around 9:30 a.m., there were reports made to police and emergency services that a man, later identified to be Anthony Griffin, was stabbing people in a subway station. Griffin allegedly headed upstairs inside the station to the platform for the 4, 5 and 6 trains, where he Slashed a 70-year-old woman on her shoulder. A second man stabbed, a 65-year-old, sustained similar injuries, according to the NYPD. As Griffin stabbed a third person, an 84-year-old man who sustained lacerations to his head, he was shot by police who had just arrived on Scene.
