Global Communications Network
Global Communications Network or (GCN) is an instant messaging client for Microsoft Windows. The software is provided free of charge but is supported by banner advertisements. In addition to chat services, users are also provided with free e-mail and webspace.
GCN supports a number of conferencing tools, including audio chat rooms, multi-party video conferencing, whiteboards, and file transfers. It also includes a Jabber client allowing one to send instant messages to AIM, .NET Messenger Service, Yahoo!, and ICQ users.
GCN was created by a high school student named Jason Resch, from Rhode Island.
The first official version of GCN was released in November of 2000.
