ghSMART is also known for co-creating in 1997, with Bradford D. Smart, the management approach called Topgrading. Topgrading refers to a process of hiring, retaining, and developing talented managers and employees.

Origin
ghSMART was founded in 1995 by Geoff Smart. At the time, Smart was a Ph.D. student at Claremont Graduate University and a student of management writer Peter F. Drucker. Smart’s acclaimed doctoral dissertation, Management Assessment Methods in Venture Capital: Toward a Theory of Human Capital Valuation provided a conceptual framework for the firm’s early products and services.
