Gerstein Fisher
Gerstein Fisher is a quantitative investment management firm based in New York City and founded in 1993 by Gregg S. Fisher. The firm serves individuals, institutions and advisors and manages over $4 billion in client assets.
Investment philosophy and strategies
Gerstein Fisher is an early pioneer in factor investing. The firm specializes in what it calls Multi-Factor investing, a disciplined, quantitative approach that tilts globally diversified portfolios to the factors that academic research has shown to reward investors in the form of higher returns.
Launched in 2010-13, the firm’s Multi-Factor mutual funds were among the first quantitative funds in the growth equity and real estate investment trust (REIT) categories.
From its inception, Gerstein Fisher was also a pioneer of tax-efficient investing, integrating clients' tax considerations into its investment strategies, with a view toward maximizing their after-tax investment returns.☃☃ In 2016, Gerstein Fisher became part of People’s United Bank, and Gerstein Fisher’s Multi-Factor strategies became the Bank’s quantitative investment offering.
Ties to academia
The firm’s investment strategy group has an active feedback loop with academics at the forefront of behavioral finance, risk engineering, geopolitics and economics. This was formalized in 2009 by the formation of the Gerstein Fisher Research Center.
