GEOSCAN
GEOSCAN is a brand of on-belt elemental analysis system for monitoring bulk material such as limestone and iron ore developed by Scantech limited. The main aim of GEOSCAN has been to even out the quality of raw materials coming out from inhomogenous and complex depostits and to mimimize the addition of corrective materials that are often expensive. It works on the principle of Prompt gamma neutron activation analysis (PGNAA) in which neutrons are emitted by a neutron source installed below the conveyor belt and are absorbed by the layer of material on the belt. The Analysers measure material quality (stockpile and raw mix applications) without physical sampling and without conveyor or load contact. All units can be integrated with plant control systems for real time process control. The instruments are made in Adelaide and sold to companies around the globe.
History
The first GEOSCAN was so to the INCSA plant in Costa Rica in 1996. Since then there have been hundreds installed around the world.
Current range and models
GEOSCAN – C is used in the cement industry. They are used for stock piling and raw mix applications. These are online analysers and scan the bulk material and show in the monitor of the computer, various elements present in the limestone; thereby the production chemist can add on chemicals with the grinding systems to increase the effectiveness of the limestone.
GEOSCAN – M is used for minerals applications including ore and concentrate analysis.
