Gene Alcantara

Gene Alcantara is standing as an individual candidate for the European Parliament for Greater London in the elections to be held on 4th June 2009. There are 8 seats in the London constituency.

Alcantara is an OISC-Registered Immigration Adviser/Caseworker, and is a Correspondent for ABS-CBN The Filipino Channel for the United Kingdom.

Born in the Philippines, Alcantara moved to London to join his mother in 1981 and acquired British/European nationality in 1992.

He has a BA in Russian Studies, and a PG Diploma in East-West Trade from the University of Westminster, a Master of Business Administration from Oxford Brookes University, and a Certificate in Employment Law from the College of North East London.

He has been ACTIVE in community development since his arrival in the UK, and worked for 21 years for the British Council, promoting British culture and education to overseas audiences. During this time he spent a brief period in the Czech Republic, and 4 years in Poland (Warsaw and Krakow).

Alcantara speaks English and Filipino fluently, understands Russian and speaks basic Spanish, but can get better at both, and very elementary Polish.
