Gary Frutkoff

Gary Frutkoff (born 1951) is an American production designer.

Biography

Gary Frutkoff was born into the suburbs of Long Island in 1951. Graduated H.F. Carey High School in 1969. Shortly after graduating Nassau Community College, he began exploring the field of comic book art which eventually led to settling in Marin County to work with artists of the underground comix movement that included Dave Sheridan, Gilbert Shelton, Kelly & Mouse. From there, Frutkoff migrated to an eclectic array of artistic pursuits that included graphic design & illustration, carpentry, and glass etching.

Using his artistic talents and background, he entered the motion picture field by designing and illustrating the imaginary characters that populated Walter Murch's directorial debut Return To Oz. From there, it was on to art directing and Los Angeles. Frutkoff went on to production designing for such emerging directors as Steven Soderbergh (Out Of Sight), Quentin Tarantino (Four Rooms), Carl Franklin (Devil In A Blue Dress), and Tom Hanks (Fallen Angels).

Marriage and children

Frutkoff lives in Venice, Los Angeles, California with his wife, Lynne Hinz and daughter, Amaya.
