Gariece McPherson

Gariece Kayon McPherson (born May 14, 1989, in Spanish Town, St. Catherine) is a Jamaica National footballer and the current goalkeeper for Portmore United F.C. U-21 team. Even with a tall frame of 6'1", his prowess is evident in the way he dominates the goal. Having been groomed for the game since the tender age of seven, Gariece has enjoyed many years of success within the parish league, national premier league and representing both the U-17 and U-20 national teams.

Portmore United Football Club

Gariece has been a member of Portmore United F.C. since the age of fourteen. During his first year with Portmore he was called on to keep for the senior team against Rivoli United in a Wray and Nephew Premier League game. Nerves may have been a factor in Rivoli's scoring against him in the first half of the game, but it was all Gariece needed to boost his confidence to deliver an outstanding performance for the duration of the game.

During his 5 year tenure, he has twice earned the club's coveted Goalkeeper of the year award for 2006 and 2007. He has captained the U-21 team several times and proves to be a worthy leader. So far in the 2009/2010 Digicel Premier League (DPL) U-21 tournament Gariece has garnered an average of 25 saves. He occasionally keeps for the senior team in the DPL as well.

In July 2009, the club took a small contingent of players to Norway for a series of matches. While unable to procure a contract to any of the local teams, Gariece did earn great comments and high praises when he kept in the match against Lilistrum F.C.

Jamaica National Football

Gariece, or "Skipper" to his team mates, was recruited for the Jamaica National U-20 team in the recent CONCACAF U-20 qualifying matches of 2009. The team did not qualify. This, however was not his first appearance representing the National side. He has kept for both the U-20 and U-17 teams for prior tournaments.
