Galway Warriors
The Galway Warriors are an Irish American Football team formed in 2012, and located in Galway City. They play their home games at GMIT sports grounds.
History
Founded in 2012 by several followers of the NFL, and with help from local media sources, interest has increased significantly.
With over 20 years combined experience from Head Coach Patrick Costello and Assistant Coach Adrian Paredes, the team will be sure to make itself known within the Irish American Football league!
Their IAFL-2 2014 season began with a 36-0 defeat to the Tyrone Titans which was followed by a 2-0 home loss to the South Kildare Soldiers. On June 15 they traveled to Dundalk to take on the Mavericks but lost 27-0. A first win in team history was secured with a 13-6 win over the South Kildare Soldiers thanks to Simon Lynskeys game winning interception return for a TD. However the following week a 46-0 defeat to the Tyrone Titans at home means they now have a 1-4 record for the season. On the last game of the season the Dundalk Mavericks came to town and won with a 24-0 scoreline. This means the Warriors concluded their inaugural season with a 1-5 record.
The team will resume training in early September.
Charity Work
In 2013 the Galway Warriors took on The Galway Hospice as their principle charity.
