Fung sau
Fung Sau
Fung Sau is on old style of martail arts.
It is an off shoot of wing chun . Its been described as a cross between Wing Chun ( blocking) and Kempo (brutality) . This is pretty close.
As off now , its not being taught because ythe old master has died, and none of the mature students have taken up the mantle
It was never taught in a "normal" way . You was never shown Kata's because the theory was " why should i hit fresh air, when i can hit you instead". This led to a certain mentallity within the trainng group.
There are major differences within the Dojo compaired to the traditional Dojo :
No warming up No streaching No Kata No gloves No real uniform No bare feet No traditional language
No Warming up: This was due to the fact that if you got into a real confrontaion , your body would be cold, so it would be slower
No streaching: This is combined to no warming up . Once you warmed up and streached , your legs are a lot more flexible and can kick higher without the risk of damage , and of ligement hyper extension. In a real situation without warm up , and you tried to kick to the same hight , there is a good chance of damaginging your ligaments, thus making you inefficient and more likely to damage your self rather thatn your opponent.
No Kata: Kata's teach you to hit fresh air, and thus there is no reason for tensing up the fist just before impact . Hitting a real person , prepares your hands and wrists for the impact , thus the chance of damaging your wrist is minimilised
No Gloves : when boxers use hand wraps, this does a number of things,
1) the hand cannot close into a proper fist
2) gives extra support to the wrists
3) locks the hand into an unnatural position
all these things are undesirable in a real fight , you hands will react with muscle memory and take that shape, which is the incorrect shape without gloves/wraps
No real uniform : traditaional uniforms give more flexibility and movement than normal streat clothes. This will give your body the wrong information when fighting
No bare feet: Bare feet in the Dojo is a bizarre concept, with out shoes, your feet are much lighter and quicker. But in the real world you will always have shoes on , it would not be possible to take them off before a fight commences. Shoes add extra weight and deliver extra damage but decrease the speed of your kicks
