Fakhar -i- Abbas

Fakhar –i- Abbas is a wildlife biologist, who started his career working against the menace of bearbaiting, he almost devoted his life to save the cruelty towards bears to ensure the conservation of wild bears in the wild.

He started these efforts in year 1994 with the financial support of World Society for the Protection of Animals1. He completed first bear rescue centre in Pakistan named as “Kund Bear Sanctuary2” in year 2000 and since then he has rescued 36 bears from the bearbaiting events3 and now started building another mega bear rescue centre at Balkasar district Chakwal of Punjab where he is planning to rescue all left bears being involved in bearbaiting.

Fakhar –i- Abbas graduated from University of Arid Agriculture Rawalpindi 4 and received his Doctorate from University of the Punjab 5. He reported the different aspects of biology, conservation and population of Gray Goral in his PhD research. So far he has completed 85 different research articles on biology of birds, reptiles and mammals. In year 2004 he started a unique research system in the country named as Bioresource research Centre6 where he established the various labs of Molecular Biology7, Microbiology, Bioacoustics8, herpetology9 and animal physiology, a herbarium and library10 for the research scholars of all universities of Pakistan where the research scholars complete their research.

Fakhar –i- Abbas during his efforts for the conservation of the wildlife visited 1845 schools11 to involve the students in conservation of their native areas. He has also conveyed his message regarding the conservation and animal rights in Islam to more than 5000 mosques12 in the country. And the more than 80% control over bearbaiting events in the country is only because of this man alone.
