F-108 Panther
The F-108 Panther Space Superiority Fighter is a fictional spacecraft found in the Wing Commander universe. Its first appearance was in Wing Commander: Prophecy under the service of the Terran Confederation.

In the fictional Wing Commander universe, the Terran Confederation started deploying many new fighters for their fleets, including the F-108 Panther Space superiority fighter. These fighters were first used and seen in the Wing Commander: Prophecy computer game and is usable in later parts of the game. Maniac leads the Black Widow Squadron, whom use the F-108 Panther as their standard fighter in the beginning of the game.
The New Panther fighters are usually assigned to light escort carriers and standard reconnaissance missions. The Panther has exceptional acceleration and maneuverability make it preferred by some pilots, who consider it a superior dogfighter. The Panther's front-mount weapon arsenal includes two Ion cannons and two Tachyon guns. They are also equipped with a standard payload of six Friend or Foe and Image Recognition missiles; twelve altogether. A unique feature about the Panther not featured on previous Confederation fighters was its horizontally rotating thrust pod, which enables the fighter to enhances its yaw rate by turning a certain radius when in flight, a feature that helps the maneuverability of the fighter during flight.
