Exeter-class Destroyer

The fictional Exter-class Destroyer was a Terran Confederation capital starship in the fictional Wing Commander universe. The first appearance of these destroyers was in the computer game Wing Commander.

The destroyer had a reputation for being a fast and nimble ship which carried a nasty punch for its small size. They were employed in a variety of different roles, including acting as fast escorts for fleet carriers and torpedo strikes against Kilrathi capital ships and planetary bases. The shielding of these ships is far lighter than in later ships and do not have any anti-matter cannons. It was equipped with a substantial amount of laser turrets and batteries for attack and defense.

Exeter-class destroyers incorporated a hangar bay with the capacity to carry up to eighteen fighters.

Notable Vessels

One notable ship was the TCS Gwenhyvar, a Confed ship that was captured several years before 2654 by the Kilrathi so that the enemy could trick enemy ships and ambush them with the Gwenhyvar. There were always rumors that this story was true, but only a few pilots and personnel ever believed it. However, during the Vega Campaign in 2654, a Confed destroyer called the TCS Johann wandered into the Jotunheim System while the TCS Tiger's Claw was chasing the KIS Sivar. Christopher Blair was dispatched to save the vessel, but the Johann was actually the Gwenhyvar, and it launched five Rapiers to attack Blair. Fortunately, Blair killed all of the Rapier pilots and destroyed the Gwenhyvar once and for all, finally ending the numerous rumors about the ship.
