Eve Brandstein
Eve Brandstein, one of Hollywood’s most prodigious workers, has made contributions to nearly every facet of the entertainment industry. She has been a major studio executive, a producer, director, writer/creator, casting director, talent manager, author, artist and psychotherapist.
During her early days in Hollywood, Ms. Brandstein was accepted into the Directing Woman’s Workshop at the American Film Institute, where she made two films.
She went on to work with Norman Lear for the next decade and earned the reputation for being one of the foremost casting powers in Los Angeles. She has also cast and consulted for many production companies, studios, networks, and independent groups. (see credit list).
Ms. Brandstein made her debut as a television producer with the series “E/R”, starring Elliot Gould for CBS, a “Who’s the Boss?” spin off, “Charmed Lives”, for ABC, and “Small Victories” for NBC which she also directed. She went on to have development deals to produce and write for Columbia Television, Castle Rock, Entertainment, Stephen J. Cannell Productions and HBO. Recently she produced PAX’s first comedy pilot based on the stand-up humor of Jeff Allen.
Since the formation of First Lady Productions, Ms. Brandstein’s personal success story has gained momentum. As an Executive Producer for Castle Rock Entertainment, she also produced the “Homeroom” pilot for the ABC series starring Darryl Sivad, and “Julie Brown: The Show” for CBS.
This CBS pilot was the beginning of a producing/writing partnernership with the Emmy Award winning writer, Anne Beatts under their B-Girls Productions banner. B-Girls has been associated under contract at Castle Rock Productions and Stephen J. Cannell Productions, where they wrote 5 comedy scripts and produced, “the Belles of Bleecker Street”, for ABC. As an independent writing/producing parnership they have worked for E Channel, Nickelodeon for who they wrote and produced a pilot with Tolin/Robbins for Amanda Byns and wrote the pilot scripts for “Beeper Girls” for Film Roman Productions and “Divastated.” For VH1. B-Girls has just executive produced and directed “John Water’s Presents Movies That Will Corrupt You.”
Ms. Brandstein’s First Lady Productions has been involved in development-production deals with HBO Independent Productions and again with Norman Lear on half hour series for ACT III Productions. She also participates in packaging independent feature films as well as associate produced the following features: “Night Class”, with Sean Young for Symphony Films, and “The Warrior and The Amazon”, with Patrick Bergen, “Warrior Angel” with Rutger Hauer, Arnold Vosloo and Joanna Pakula, “Endangered Species” with Eric Roberts, “A Man Called Rage”, with Lance Hendrickson, and most recently “The Pumpkin Karver,” directed by Robert Mann.
Eve Brandstein is a member of the Directors Guild of America, The Writer’s Guild of America, Women In Film, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, PEN West and has been on the faculty of City University of New York, Calif. State University at Northridge and has also taught classes at USC, The Learning Annex as well as private seminars and training programs.. She is also a published poet, author, journalist and artist and psychotherapist.
Her therapeutic practice is post-modern and features narrative and social constructionist practices.
