Emporea

Emporea is an MMO browser-based strategy game developed by the Slovak company Pixel Federation and published by Bigpoint Games.

The game is set into a Tolkien-like fantasy world of four different races, where players grouped in alliances cooperatively use armies and magic to weaken or destroy their opponents.

Emporea is programmed in PHP with the GUI made in Flash.

Gameplay

Races

Each player in the world of Emporea has to choose one of the four races: dwarves, elves, orcs or undead and their starting terrain. The player then gets his first city built, only containing a level 1 Palace, a handful of resources and a few free spots on the city grid to start building up his economy.

Resources

The basic set of resources includes gold, wood, stone and iron, which are produced in their respective buildings – goldmines, sawmills, quarries and iron mines. The advanced set of resources includes sulfur, crystals and mercury. Each production building has a certain amount of production and storage according to its level. More buildings of the same type may be constructed within a city. Continuous supply of resources is essential to building up your city and expanding further to create your kingdom.

Terrain

There are several terrain types: marshes, hills, deserts, forests, meadows and mountains. Each type gives a certain bonus or penalty for the mined commodities, e.g. users get +15% to gold production, but -20% to wood production in the mountains.

City

The city grid is mostly filled with natural obstacles at first. Players have to clean them first to be able to build on the ground beneath them. As the buildings have different sizes on the grid (2x2 and 3x3 fields) and rebuilding the city is very expensive in later stages, players must place their building carefully.

Markets

The market building is a storage room for your resources and it supplies your city with traders. Traders can move commodities from one city to another allied one, trade with other players and they are required when the player is about to build a new city.

Research

Research depends on the level of the palace in the city you want to research in. Research allows you to build certain buildings, recruit units in them and improve their parameters or abilities.

World map

Using a switch, players can move from within a city to the world map. There they can see their own and other players’ cities, neutral camps, guild marketplaces, portals and forbidden temples. A forbidden temple is the strongest of all neutral camps and contains a Tear of Gods – a special, ultimate artifact that is essential to winning the game.

Actions

Players may send their armies to three different types of battle: attack, robbery and siege. There are three types of defense as well: units may flee, defend themselves within the city and counterattack.

Spells may be cast on cities or armies, creating positive (e.g. greater speed, higher attack damage, bonus to wood production) or negative (e.g. decreased hitpoints) buffs, or [...] units. Army units can be sent to espionage – they can return with detailed information regarding the opponent’s army, buildings and their level or resources within the city.

Heroes

Heroes are the representation of each individual player. They have a set of skills they can learn, based on their level. Heroes gain levels through accumulation of experience points, which they obtain for [...] enemy units. Once your hero has learned a skill it’s impossible to remove it and its effect is permanent. Heroes are permitted to have 5 artifacts at any given moment, which affect a given option kingdom-wide.

Alliances

Players may create alliances to help each other out, either by sending resources via traders, or sending armies to defend friendly cities under attack.

Stage

Currently, the game is running in a German-localized beta version at Emporea.de.
