Emery Brett Ledger was born on March 16, 1972 in Laguna Beach, California. He was raised under the care of his mother Cheryl Helm. It was in his childhood that he decided to become a lawyer. His father and two brothers practice law, which inspired him to become a lawyer and help others the way they had done.

Ledger studied Political Science at Arizona State University, and in 1994, graduated with honors. After receiving his undergraduate degree, Emery Ledger attended Pepperdine University School of Law in Malibu, California.

Ledger is married to Alison Ledger. They have two children, Logan and Hutton.

Law career

In 1998, Ledger obtained his license to practice law in the state of California. Early in his career, Ledger focused on internet gambling cases and i-gaming law. He had speaking engagements in various internet gambling conventions such as the 2006 Casino Affiliate Convention.

Notable cases

Years after, he expanded his expertise to other areas such as personal injury, wrongful death, and vehicular accident cases which became timely when the 2008 Chatsworth Metrolink accident occurred in September of that year. The accident went on to become the deadliest train accident in US history, claiming the lives of 25 persons and injuring hundreds more. He has actively helped the families of victims file claims to the train's operator, Metrolink.

2008 further became a landmark year for Ledger when he successfully defended Jose Luis Nazario, Jr., a Marine Sergeant and Iraq veteran who was accused of [...] two detainees while in Fallujah, Iraq in late 2004. The U.S. attorney's office has charged Nazario with voluntary [...] in the killings of two unarmed detainees in Fallujah, Iraq, in November 2004 Ledger released the results of polygraph test which showed that his client, Nazario, answered truthfully when asked if he was aware of or had ever committed a major crime

On August 28, 2008, Nazario was acquitted on all criminal charges filed against him due to lack of physical evidence. Ledger admitted during the trial that he is defending Nazario free of charge
