Katie Craig (artist)
Katie Craig(born 1988) is an American contemporary artist who makes abstract paintings that explore themes of energy and contrast. Craig graduated in 2010 with a BFA in Studio Art from Pepperdine University in Malibu, California. Craig currently lives and works in Garland, Texas.
Life and education
Katie Craig was born in 1988 in Merced, California, a small city in the state's Central Valley. In 2006, she enrolled at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) in Studio Art in 2010. During her time at Pepperdine, Craig developed a foundation in abstract expressionism, which would inform her subsequent work. After graduating, Craig relocated to Dallas, Texas, where she met her husband, a native of England.
Work and career
Craig works in Garland, TX. Her paintings are abstract, utilizing contrasting geometrics such as, stripes, dots, and rhythmic patterns. Craig's artistic style is rooted in maximalism, a trend characterized by excess and complexity. She typically works in a bright palette experimenting with color contrasts to create visual tension. Contrasting stripes, dots, and gestural strokes are also used in her compositions.
Craig's paintings and prints have been shown in galleries in Des Moines, Iowa, Dallas, Texas, and Charleston, SC.
