Emerge Desktop

Emerge Desktop is a replacement Shell for Windows 2000 and Windows XP (both Home and Professional editions) written in C++, primarily developed with the MinGW compiler, and is licensed under the GPL2.

Applets

Emerge Desktop applets are capable of being run as both standalone as well as being integrated.

  • emergeCore
  • emergeTray
  • emergeVWM
  • emergeCommand
  • emergeTasks
  • emergeHotkeys
  • emergeLauncher

emergeCore

In order for Emerge Desktop applets to communicate with each other, emergeCore must be running. Without emergeCore, each applet will run independently (if, for example, you wish to use them in conjunction with another desktop shell).

emergeTray

In order to replace Windows Explorer as a shell, Emerge Desktop provides this applet as a system tray (the area that collects the ICONS collected at the lower right corner in Explorer).

emergeVWM

Multiple virtual desktops has long been a staple of Unix computing, there are several permutations of Virtual Window Managers for Microsoft Windows, and Emerge Desktop ships with its own.
