For more than 60 years Emedco has been the leading manufacturer and distributor of safety signs, tags, labels, and identification products for the workplace. The company is one of the leading providers of safety and marking products for traffic and parking, lockout and electrical, warehouse safety and inventory, security, personal protective equipment (PPE), and safety compliance and training. Emedco specializes in providing custom safety products that allow its customers to take virtually any safety-related product and modify it to best meet their needs.

History

Emedco first opened its doors in 1949, locating both its main office and manufacturing facility there. The company, which employs approximately 200 employees, was purchased by Brady Corporation in 2004. Brady was founded in 1914 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, as W.H. Brady Co., and renamed Brady Corporation in 1998. The company began selling products internationally in 1947. In 1984, Brady went public, with stock trading on the Nasdaq Stock Market, and in 1999, moved trading of its stock to the New York Stock Exchange, where it trades under the symbol BRC. Brady employs approximately 9,000 employees with operations in 26 countries around the world.

Corporate Citizenship

At the Buffalo, N.Y. facility, Emedco has taken major steps over the past several years to reduce its global footprint and give back to the local community.

Eco-Friendly Activities:
• The replacement of the old lighting with new high efficiency lighting and the installation of motion sensors has cut annual electricity consumption dramatically.
• The implementation of a more aggressive recycling program. The company currently recycles all waste corrugated cardboard, paper, aluminum, steel, and plastic from its facility. Emedco is also a consumer of 50% recycled aluminum sign blanks for its signs.
• The expansion of its line of Eco-Friendly products to include more Traffic Control products made from 100% Recycled Rubber. These new products join its existing lines of Eco-Friendly Spill Control products.

Community Outreach:
• Emedco donated more than 3,000 pairs of gloves and safety glasses to emergency utility crews working round-the-clock to restore electricity to about 350,000 homes and businesses in Western New York after an unexpected and severe snowstorm in October, 2006.
• Continental Airlines Flight 3407 crashed to a house in Clarence Center, N.Y. (about four miles northeast of the Emedco facility) in February 2009 The crash killed all 49 people onboard and one on the ground. To help with the recovery effort, Emedco donated $6,000 in personal protective equipment and traffic control products to the recovery team.
• Emedco’s annual Academic Excellence Awards scholarship program awards $30,000 in scholarships to local high-school seniors for outstanding achievement in academic, athletics, leadership and service.
