Elliot Novak

Elliot Novak was a character in the television series Alice. He was played by Charles Levin.

The cop who snagged the "Dingy"

Elliot worked as a police officer in Phoenix, Arizona, and made his initial appearance when he arrested Vera Louise Gorman-Novak for jaywalking. Despite his professional manner, he was smitten with the quiet and shy Vera, and she with him. They fell in love almost immediately.

They were married not soon after, despite Vera's boss, Mel Sharples almost ruining the wedding by trying to make Elliot as much of a chauvinist as Mel. This earned him The Wrath of Alice Hyatt and Jolene Hunnicutt. In fact, Alice scolded Mel by saying, "For once, can't you do something without saying anything stupid?!"

Needless to say, the wedding went without any more interference, and the two began their lives together. They moved into a new house, bringing Vera's pets with her. Also arriving in different episodes, their pastor who married them, who was quite forgetful, and Debbie Walden, Vera's wizened former landlady (also played by Linda Lavin). They celebrated their first anniversary by repeating how they met in the first place: Vera getting arrested for jaywalking.

As the show ended, Vera discovered that she was AbOUT to have her first child. By this time, the diner was about to be shut down. This was fortunate for both, as Vera wanted to be a stay-at-home mother, and Elliot to be the breadwinner.
