Edgemere retirement community
Edgemere is a continuing care retirement community in the Preston Hollow neighborhood of Dallas, Texas, offering independent living, assisted living, memory support, skilled nursing and rehabilitation on one campus. Edgemere is also the Dallas area’s only provider of Masterpiece Living®, a national program for fitness and personal growth at any age, based on the 10-year MacArthur Foundation Study on Aging. It prepares Edgemere residents to reduce the 12 risk factors of aging as identified by the Mayo Clinic through a self-paced and results-oriented curriculum.
Company History
Edgemere was founded in 2001 by Senior Quality Lifestyles Corporation (SQLC) and its chairman, Charles B. Brewer. SQLC develops and manages not-for-profit communities, where all earnings are reinvested into its communities to enhance resident services, and health care staffing and capabilities. Rather than pay dividends to stockholders, not-for-profit communities are mission-driven, created to provide security for their members and offering benevolent care if residents run out of funds through no fault of their own. SQLC also has a charitable foundation that supports this effort, as well as local programs that assist the senior population in need.
Amenities
Edgemere offers residents a choice of 13 floor plans for independent living. All residents receive a package of services and amenities, such as fine dining, a fitness center and indoor swimming pool, on-site beauty salon/barbershop, performing arts center, woodworking shop, library, creative arts center and media center. Local transportation is also provided for residents.
Levels of Care
As a continuing care retirement community, Edgemere provides health care services on-site at The Plaza. They include assisted living, Alzheimer's-Certified Memory Care, Medicare-certified short-term and long-term skilled nursing and physical, occupational and speech therapy.
Not-for-Profit
Edgemere and its sister SQLC communities are not-for-profit. Earnings are reinvested into enhanced services and amenities for residents, including health care staffing and services, rather than used to pay dividends to stockholders.
Sister Communities
Edgemere was the first of six SQLC communities:
- Querencia at Barton Creek in Austin, TX;
- The Stayton at Museum Way in Fort Worth, TX;
- Mirador in Corpus Christi, TX;
- The Buckingham in Houston, TX;
