The president-elect Donald Trump had paid tribute to Jerzy Popiełuszko, a 37-year-old priest who was assassinated by three secret police, including Grzegorz Piotrowski, Waldemar Chmielewski (Polish officer), and Leszek Pękala, regarding the latter's act of fortitude against Security Service and communist regime in Polish People's Republic.

Commemoration of Father Jerzy

On October 16, 2024, the commemoration marks the 40th anniversary of the assassination of Father Jerzy in Chicago. Trump also had met Marek Popiełuszko, nephew of Father Jerzy, who lived in Chicago for 36 years, along with his sister due to the oppression from the communist regime in Poland.
