Dita Karelina
Dita Karelina (20 September, 1984, Minsk) is a poet from Belarus.
Biography
Dita Karelina was born in Minsk, Belarus on September 20, 1984. In 2007 she graduated from Belarus State University of Culture and Arts. She studied in the Department Of literature and graduated with honors.
Karelina, who is the only representative of lesbian culture in the country, is the member of the Writher's Union. She is the author of three collections of poems: "Mad STOP Mine"(2006, publishing house "Chetire Chetverti"), "Another Kind of Beauty" (2007, publishing house "Chetire Chetverti") and "Promille of Despair. Promille of Love" (2009, publishing house "Varaksina").
Dita is the winner of the: competition of young poets (2008, First Place, Moscow) and competition named "AbOUT the Motherland" ("О родном крае") (2007, First Place, Moscow). She has published poems in the following newspapers and magazines: "Literaturnaia Gazeta", "Rosiiski Kolokol", "Novaia Literatura", "Neman", "Alesia", "Gaspadinia", "Epilog", "Litklub", as well as in the book "Russkoe Inostrannoe Zarubejie". Unfortunately the books of the author are usually published in small quantities (2000 copies), but the interest of leading Literary editions of CIS towards the scandalous poetess is growing, the vivid example of what is the article in "Literaturnaia Gazeta" in 2009.
Books
- Mad STOP Mine – The first book of the author that was published in 600 copies caused acute response from the cultural circle of Belarus and the poetess was rejected to entering the Writher's Union.
- Another Kind of Beauty - This book did not produce a homogenous acceptance within the readers. The poems directly showed the love and open passion towards women and ability to talk about things that was not acceptable in Belarusian poetry without the shame. The press named Dita Karelina "The New Sophia Parnok".
- Promille of Dispare. Promille of Love - The third collection of poems once and for all affirmed Dita Karelina as "The New Sophia Parnok" or "Young Sappho". Now the poetess if published in leading Russian and foreign editions.
