David Gorton

David Gorton(born 21 May 1975 in Brighton, Sussex) is the Head of Physical Education at Westminster Academy.

Gorton has been a teacher for over 10 years, since graduating from Brunel University in June 1997. He begun his career at ROKEBY School, Stratford (Home to the 2012 Olympics) as a PE Teacher, later moving on to Heathcote School, Chingford as a Head of Year in 2001. In 2002 he returned to Rokeby as Head of PE, before moving to Cumberland School Sports College in April 2005.

He moved to Westminster Academy in April 2007 as Curriculum Coordinator and has since been responsible for managing the Core PE, GCSE PE and BTEC Sport courses. In addition to his work at the Academy he mentors NQTs and works in partnership with UEL & London Met teacher training universities. Further partnerships developed by Gorton include the Sports Ambassadors from Imperial and Middlesex Universities, complimented by the work of QPR enriching the OSHL programme.

David Gorton is also the Jack Petchey Foundation coordinator at the Academy. One of the most recent Award winners bought a Croquet competition set, which has been embrached by the G&T students at the Academy.

David Gorton has recently been responsible administering the bid for the Academy achieving the FA Charter Standard Award and the Sports Mark Award for 2007. He is in the process of completing a Masters from Middlesex University.

Sporting Achievements

David has represented Brunel University in the BUSA Championships and has played for Brighton, Oxshott, Upminster & Old Loughtonions Hockey Clubs. Whilst playing in goal he has trialled for England and has competed in the 1/4 finals of the National League Cup for Old Loughtonions against Cannock.

His biggest achievement to date has been in the completion of the London and Amsterdam marathons. He has completed 1/2 marathons in Brighton, Nottingham & Blackpool, before retiring due to knee injury.
