Daniele Compatangelo

Daniele Compatangelo (Savona, November 15, 1975) is an Italian journalist and executive producer.

Biography

Compatangelo was raised in Torino, Italy, where he studied at the "Colleggio San Giuseppe" and "Istituto Rosmini". He attended the University of Torino, where he graduated in 2003 in law and journalism with a thesis on the "Reform of CONI" (the Italian Olympic Committee).

He became member of the Italian Press Bar Association in 2008 (Ordine dei Giornalisti di Torino – Professionista), The Los Angeles Press Club in 2010 and journalist accredited at the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) in 2012. He works as correspondent and contributor for different European News Shows from Los Angeles, United States.

Early career

Compatangelo began working as reporter while still in high school with the local press in Torino, Italy at a relatively young age, authoring sports articles for the locals newspapers and press agencies.

In the early nineties he began freelancing in media relations for the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup taking place in Sestriere, Italy and, in the following years, he travelled the world working as international publicist and young producer in not less than 30 Championships in different sporting events such as the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Sestriere (1997), Vail – Colorado (1999), Bormio – Italy (2005);the International Track and Field Meeting in different locations (1994–2000), the Gerald Ford Golf Tournament in Vail – Colorado 1998, the Nba europe live tour in 2007 and the 23rd Winter Universiade (2007) in Torino, Italy.

In 1996 he attended, as volunteer in media relations, his first Olympic Games in Atlanta, Georgia – US, followed in the year 2000, by the Sydney Olympic Games, as freelance producer with RAI, the Italian Public Television.

During college, Compatangelo spent several months in Rome, at RAI (Italian Public Television), Saxa Rubra headquarter as intern at TG2 Nightly News, where he experienced, from a news room the 9/11 New York City terror attack, and managing to get a hold of few survivors of the Pentagon terror attack and have them Live on the News.

In 2006, he was hired by NBC Universal, as bureau coordinator and olympic producer at the 2006 Torino Olympic Games. Together with the Olympic production team, he organized NBC's whole on-air broadcasting studio at the main Olympic broadcasting center and at all the competitions venues. In 2008, Compatangelo was hired in China for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, followed by the 2010 Vancouver Olympic in Canada, where he was one of the four managers on shift to supervise the 500 workers whose were assigned to the International broadcasting and Press Center. His last Olympic was London 2012 where he has worked at the Italian Olympic Committee headquarter.

In the fall of 2008, while working as winter sport correspondent for Infront Media from the Milan office, Compatangelo began freelancing for Italian daily newspaper "Il Secolo XIX" covering a number of important stories and sporting events, such as the Alpine Ski World Cup in 2008, the Mediterranean Games in Pescara (Italy) and the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships in Val d'Isere (France), in 2009. Among others, his stories about the dark side of Los Angeles, The Los Angeles Break Down, was recognized as remarkable piece of investigative journalism and was awarded in Los Angeles, USA, in 2011.

Latest career

In 2010, he founded CIJ MEDIA, a freelance media agency, specialized in Swiss and Italian medias, the first of its kind ever established in Los Angeles. Compatangelo soon became an international freelance executive producer, correspondent and world news contributor for Sky TG24, RSI News and Sport (Swiss Public Television), RAI News (Italian Public Television 24hr News Channel), "Studio Aperto" Nightly News (on "Italia Uno" network), Mattino 5 (top daily Italian morning news show aired on canale 5) and "Il Corriere della Sera" (first Italian top daily newspaper), covering breaking news, press junkets, the Oscars, and the Golden Globes.

In 2013 Compatangelo was in charge of media relations in the USA, in the organization of the multimedia symphony concert "Beyond La Dolce Vita", an evening to celebrate the America's Year of Italian Culture, together with the Center for the Art of Performance at UCLA and the Orchestra Italiana del Cinema. The evening took place at the Royce Hall, in Los Angeles on November 22. The event has earned the high patronage of Italian President Giorgio Napolitano.

In 2015 he became the US base correspondent for Mattino 5, host daily by Federica Panicucci and Francesco Vecchi and the following year he covered the 2016 Presidential Election.

During the San Bernardino [...] attack, Daniele Compatangelo, was the first Italian journalist to go live, for more than 24hrs, on Rai News and Mattino 5, from the Greater Los Angeles Area.

Studio Aperto Nightly News, has featured many of his news specials, such as the Desert Trip Concert, Behind the Scene of the HollywoodStuntmen, The Oscars, stories of Italian of success in the USA, the Issue of medical and recreational marjuana and investigative segments such as the use of [...] applyed to severe depression.

For Sky News, from Las Vegas – Nevada, he has covered the CES (Consumer and Electronic Show), the world's gathering place for all who thrive on the business of consumer technologies and where next-generation innovations are introduced to the marketplace.

Compatangelo since 2012, is the LA base, freelance executive producer for Swiss RSI and among many, the news has featured his insight stories produced from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory NASA in Pasadena, about the Voyager spacecraft 1&2 and the potential life on the oceans of Europa and Enceladus. His investigative awarded storiy on Amazon was also featured on the nightly news.

In his career he interviewed dozens of personalities all over the world such as NASA scientists, olympic medalists, domestic and foreign politicians and top Hollywood movie stars.
