Daniel Soxic

Daniel Soxic is a punk-pop artist from Stockholm, Sweden most known for the infamous "Green Day Hoax" back in 1998.

Daniel, who's real name is Daniel Sokcic, was born on June 1st, 1979 in Huddinge just outside of Stockholm. His parents are from Croatia. They settled in Sweden in the early seventies.

Teen Years

Influenced by bands such as Green Day and The Offspring - who had just had their big breakthroughs in 1994, Daniel picked up guitar playing at the age of 15. The first song he wrote was ironically called "94" and is AbOUT when he got separated from his best friend who had to attend a different class in school.

Daniel soon started playing in a band with friends Jimmy, Simon and Per but nothing serious came out of it. Daniel later stated that "there is no compromise when it comes to my music". In 1998 Daniel recorded his first full length demo album at home on a Fostex recorder.

The Green Day Hoax

In 1997 it was announced on the official Green Day fan site www.greenday.net that two previously unreleased Green Day songs had been "found" and added to the site. They were supposed to be old recordings from years before. The songs "Listen Son", and "I Had a Dream", the latter being more or less a cover of "Worry Rock", even got aired on radio. No one seemed to suspect anything until Billie Joe's wife, Adrianne, contacted the site owner, Jason, telling him the songs were fake and should immediately be withdrawn from the site. This caused some embarrassment for the owner of the site since he had failed to check his sources. The 2 songs had been sent in by Daniel Soxic, who was 18 years old at the time of the hoax.

The Music

Daniel has recorded several albums, all demo albums though. Only the latest album is being promoted on the official homepage. All other albums are considered private demos. Daniel has stated he will probably re-record the older songs someday.

  • 1998 Dehumanized
  • 1999 A Few Men Short
  • 2001 Books of History (EP)
  • 2003 Rejected (EP)
  • 2006 My Lament (official demo release)

Daniel writes and records the music all by himself. Equipment used are:

  • Zoom MRS-1266
  • 1968 Japanese [Fender]
  • Yamaha Acoustic
  • Harmonica
  • Cubase with additional plugins

The older demos were recorded on a 8-track Fostex along with a Alesis drum machine. "My Lament" (2006) was recorded with the Zoom MRS-1266 and mixed and mastered on PC. Daniel's next album will be recorded in Cubase and with the help of a real drummer.
