Daniel Johnston is a consultant in the international petroleum industry.
Daniel Johnston has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology from Northern Arizona University and graduated with the Dean's Award from the University of Texas at Austin with an M.B.A. (Finance).
Johnston started his career in 1977 as an open-hole logging engineer for Gearhart Industries in Fort Worth, Texas. In 1981 he went to work for Gaffney, Cline and Associates, an international petroleum consulting firm. In 1984 he was hired as an evaluations engineer with Santa Fe Minerals for the Special Projects Group. He founded his private independent consulting practice in 1985.
Johnston has published a number of articles and lectures on the subjects of Economics and Risk Analysis, Petroleum Fiscal Systems, and Financial Analysis.
Johnston is also author or co-author of a number of books published by PennWell Books and the University of Dundee, Scotland.
Johnston was guest editor for the Institute of Petroleum Accounting- University of North Texas for the special international issue (Summer 1994) of the Petroleum Accounting and Financial Management Journal (PAFMJ). He is now a column editor for the PAFMJ, and a collection of his columns and articles for PAFMJ over the years (International Exploration Economics, Risk, and Contract Analysis) was published by PennWell Books in 2003.
Johnston was a member of the editorial advisory board of PetroMin magazine in Singapore (from 1990 to 1998), and was an editorial board member of Oil & Gas Law and Taxation Review magazine in Oxford, England. Johnston is also a charter member of the editorial board of Global Energy Outlook, published by Gordon Moody, World Energy Group, Inc.
Johnston is an Honorary Lecturer at the University of Dundee, Scotland where he teaches industry public courses and graduate seminars each May. His first work for the University of Dundee was in 1994.
He is a member of the Advisory Council of the College of Arts and Sciences at Northern Arizona University.
