Daniel Arrigg Koh

Daniel Arrigg Koh (born January 1, 1985) is an American politician. He served as the Chief of Staff to the Mayor of Boston from 2014 to 2017, and was General Manager of HuffPost Live and the Chief of Staff to Arianna Huffington of the Huffington Post. On August 16, 2017, Koh announced his departure from the Office of the Mayor to launch a candidacy for U.S. Congress in Massachusetts's 3rd congressional district.

Early life and Education

Koh is a native of Andover, Massachusetts. He graduated from Phillips Academy in Andover, MA in 2003, received his B.A. from Harvard University in 2007, and completed his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, where he was president of his Section.

Biography

Koh spent a few years in the private sector working in executive search and management consulting at Booz Allen Hamilton, and ultimately landing at the Huffington Post where he held a variety of roles. After serving as Chief of Staff to Arianna Huffington, he became the first General Manager for Huffington Post Live. Koh interned for Senator Edward Kennedy as a high school student and through his undergraduate years. He later worked as an advisor for Mayor Tom Menino, where he focused on the mayor’s summer jobs program, an initiative to bring 10,000 summer jobs to youth in the area.

Marty Walsh was elected the first Mayor of Boston in 21 years, and selected Koh as his Chief of Staff in 2014. As Chief of Staff, he advised the Mayor on key issues and helped execute the vision for the City and its 18,000 employees. During Koh's tenure as Chief of Staff, the City of Boston launched CityScore, a data-driven initiative to itemize and track various aspects of city-life, ranging from pothole repairs to petty theft, in an attempt to quantify municipal health. When General Electric announced their headquarters move to Boston in 2016, the move was attributed to the joint efforts of the offices of Mayor Walsh and Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker. One of the largest companies in the world, the deal included a large tax incentive, and hopes to bring jobs and innovation to the fast-growing waterfront district of Boston.

Personal life

Koh married his wife, Amy Sennett, on June 23, 2016 in a ceremony at Boston City Hall. He is a Korean-Lebanese, and his family is involved in Democratic politics. His father is Howard Kyongju Koh, who served as Assistant Secretary of Health and Human Services under Barack Obama. His uncle Harold Hongju Koh served as Legal Adviser for the State Department under Barack Obama and Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor under Bill Clinton.
