Dan grew up near the Austin, Texas music scene and fronted Breedlove. Breedlove appeared on the H.O.R.D.E. tour. Some Breedlove with Dan Dyer videos:
Dan Dyer was born in Athens, TX, on September 14, and raised in the very small town of Tool, TX. He didn't have a particularly MusicAL upbringing and like most small town country boys he played sports, hunted, and fished. Dan received his first guitar when he was five, and didn’t have an inclination to play it until he was 18, around the time he moved to Austin.
He formed a band named Breedlove with members Tyrone Vaughn (son of Jimmy Vaughn) on lead guitar, Jason White on drums, Ezra Reynolds on keys boards, and Josh Dawkins on bass. In four years time they managed to amass a huge following, honing their live performance skills in famed venues such as Antone’s, Saxon Pub, Maggie Mae’s, and The Steamboat, and sold out numerous shows in the Austin area. During this time Breedlove self-produce a record, titled "Reach Out" that sold over 10,000 copies. Breedlove was continuously voted one of top bands in Austin in local polls during their time together until they broke up went their separate ways around 1998.
Dan Dyer ended up moving to New York City and was serving coffee in the West Village to make ends meet as he was working on a new batch of songs, hoping to capture something organic. Before moving to NYC, Dan had the fortune of running into Lenny Kravitz while he was on tour in Houston, and Lenny offered his phone number and any assistance he could give Dan. This resulted in a relationship with Lenny Kravitz that would later turn out to come to fruition.
In 2001, after taking a few years off from music, Dan Dyer recorded a solo album that was never released titled "12 Songs". The CD was produced by famed guitarist Billy White who plays on most of the tracks, and has a BLEND of other Austin musicians sitting in on tracks such as Bruce Hughes and The Groove Line Horns. The CD was never formally released, but through a strong fan support system, many fans have attained a copy. "12 Songs" is considered one of the greatest representations of Dan's musical abilities, highlighting his soulful voice by many devoted fans. This unreleased CD contains some of the most thrilling songs that Dan Dyer has ever recorded and is acclaimed for during his live performances.
"Don't Believe in Love" is considered the highlight of the live shows, where Dan is know to improvise on the keyboard and scat a beautiful blend of melodies and soulful lines that takes you to another place, and is different every time he performs it. Other crowd favorites that Dan Dyer usually performs from the CD live are "Don't Give Up", "Letter", "Lightning Roller Coaster", and "One Step Closer". The CD also contains the original version of Dan's hit "Great Ocean" and a remake of a popular Breedlove song named "Whiskey". There are many copies of "12 Songs" floating around among fans and it has been rumored that Dan Dyer may release the CD sometime in the near future due to so much demand.
After the completion of “12 Songs”, Dan Dyer was back in NYC in the mix of having meetings with record labels, managers, and lawyers working on the release of the new CD. Right around this time had Lenny Kravitz had decided he was going to start his own label and offered to make Dan Dyer his debut artist. This deal was made with the condition that Dan would record a completely new album with Lenny as the producer, leading "12 Songs" to be shelved.
So now Dan Dyer begins writing new songs, relocates to Miami, and moves in with Lenny Kravitz along with Lenny’s guitar player Craig Ross. They begin recording “Of What Lies Beneath”, and Dan is signed to Roxie/Warner Brothers records, and began the journey to becoming a pop idol. "Of What Lies Beneath" was released in 2004 and began the tour with a CD release party at Antone's in Austin Texas. The band was welcomed by fans across the country and was gaining popularity just as planned. Parties were had, deals made, and Dan Dyer went on the road in support of his new album doing the “Rock the Vote” tour and also on the road as a supporting act for Kenny Wayne Shepherd. “Great Ocean” was the first song released off the “Of What Lies Beneath” CD, and was played on many radio stations across the country. The new Dan Dyer Band was comprised of Aaron Barrera on lead guitar, Jason White (of Breedlove) on drums, and Tony Breit on bass (formerly of Lenny Kravitz).
In the end, it just wasn't meant to be. In the midst of promoting the new CD, Warner Brothers was sold, and new management decided some changes needed to be made and sadly Dan Dyer was lost somewhere in the corporate shuffle. After a major label contract was lost, Dan independently went on the road in support of his new album for two years in smaller venues across the country, but never reached his full potential of fame due to the lack of major label support. Over the years, The Dan Dyer Band had built a large fan base and was very successful in gaining popularity in different regions of the country.
Dan Dyer took over a year off and then decided he would make another record. He reconnected with an old friend and keyboard player from Melbourne Australia, by the name of David Boyle. David had just finished re-modeling an old snake charmer's church in East Austin, making a substantial part of it a recording studio. Dan was at it again, writing and recording and playing most of the instruments with David as his collaborator. He wrote the new songs, pulling from the whirlwind that seemed to be the last ten years, and began an earnest effort of creating something he felt he would want to listen to.
In October of 2007, Dan released a new album titled “3”, and is available for download at www.theartistrevolution.com. The new songs are of a more “under-produced” nature, and have a very raw and real sound to them. “Love Chain”, “Anne Marie (Why You Trippin)” and “Play On Little Children” are some of the new songs that are already creating a huge buzz in the Dan Dyer community.
Dan assembled a new group of musicians, just in time to play the 2007 Voodoo Music Experience in New Orleans. Currently Dan is playing gigs in Austin and has began booking gigs throughout Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Alabama. Don't miss you chance to catch The Dan Dyer Band live.
In addition, Dan has performed in Times Square for the Revlon Walk/Run, South by Southwest in Austin, TX, and the Voodoo Music Experience and 2007 WWOZ Piano Night in New Orleans, LA. Dan performed the National Anthem along with Sam & Ruby at a 2006 New Orleans Saints football game.
