Current Communications Group

Current Group is a Smart Grid communications and infrastructure company based in Germantown, Maryland. Company investors include Google, Goldman Sachs, EnerTech Capital, and Liberty Associated Partners (Liberty Media). Current Group uses broadband over power line communication, also serving as a broadband Internet service provider. Current has additional offices in San Diego; Switzerland; Dallas; Sao Paolo; and Rochester, New York.

Xcel Energy Smart Grid City

Current Group is deploying its equipment in Boulder, Colorado with the electric utility Xcel Energy in the company's "Smart Grid City" project. As a partner in the project, Current is developing the network monitoring and "real time data" solutions. Other project partners include Accenture, Gridpoint, OSIsoft, Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, and Ventyx.
