Conversions was an American rock band from San Jose, California. Known for their unique, dynamic sound, diverse TEXtures, and clever songwriting, the band became known in the alternative rock and indie rock scene in their hometown of San Jose, California.

History

Conversions was formed in 2010 by Mitchell Lujan (lead vocals and guitar), Joe Peifer (lead guitar), Nathan Pizano (bass, keyboards, and backing vocals), and Amrit Mahi (drums, percussion, and piano). The original line-up recorded and produced their debut album 'Equinox' released on April 28, 2011. The band performed their first show on February 12, 2011 in San Jose, California. The band followed released their EP entitled 'Violet' on November 11, 2011. The EP was recorded in Gilroy, California. Only a few copies were printed. At the time, the band was heading in a more progressive, post-grunge direction. The band performed backyard shows for their fans as well as various Battle of the Bands performances. The original line-up played shows at venues such as Slim's and the DNA Lounge in San Francisco. They also played at local venues in San Jose such as the Art Boutiki, The Refuge in Cupertino, and the Avalon in Santa Clara.

Nathan Pizano and Amrit Mahi parted ways with the band in 2012. Greg Brock joined as their drummer and Michael Rubio became their bassist and backing vocalist. On April 26, 2013 the band released their self-titled album, 'Conversions'. Soon after the release of their self-titled album, the band went on an indefinite hiatus.

Style

Conversions' sound was often described as post-grunge, progressive rock, and alternative rock. Other INSTRUMENTS used by the band included a djembe, synthesizers, and a piano. Their first album Equniox could be described as lo-fi because it was recorded using minimal equipment and low-end microphones. The band was known for using many guitar pedals at their shows as well as their polyrhythmic drum patterns and textured bass lines.
