Coma stereo
Coma Stereo was founded in 2004 in Maribor, Slovenia. The members of the band are Tomaž Kurež (vocals, guitar), Domen Repnik (drums), Sašo Stamatovski (synths and sequencer) and Marko Širec (bass). The music can be described as a dark blend of live electronica/ambiental and guitar driven songs with heavy bass, with inspiration from older science fiction movies and books .
The band is currently working on the follow up to last year's debut Binary Endings, set to be recorded in the second half of July 2008 at Kramasonik Studios in Zagreb, Croatia with Hrvoje Nikšić as producer.
Biography
2004-2006
The Slovenian four piece was originally started in 2004. It slowly grew out of its initial line-up and formed into a serious band a couple of years later, with a demo and a few shows already under its belt. In fall 2005 Tomaž Kurež joined the band on vocals and guitar. Eventually all the turmoil turned into a stable and productive line-up.
As a prelude, the band played a handfull of their own shows with a few opening slots for bigger bands such as Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band, Tena Novak, Damo Suzuki, etc…, before going into the studio to record their first full length in Zagreb, Croatia (summer of 2006). With producing duties helmed by Hrvoje Nikšić of Tena Novak, the band quickly emerged.
In fall 2006, Coma Stereo started its first European tour. 21 shows in Slovenia, Italy, Austria, Germany, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland and England.
2007-2008
The first half of 2007 featured a mini tour through Serbia and the release of the bands first single, the 20 minute song »I can Programme myself whenever I want to« via the italian label Marsiglia Records. They added 2 high profile opening slots for Cul de Sac and Sleepytime Gorilla Museum in spring.
The second half of 2007 featured the release of the their first full length entitled »Binary Endings« (1.10.2007 - Solar Pulse Music) and a bigger tour ranging from september till november through most of western/central Europe, where they also opened up for 31 Knots and Experimental Dental School. The band was later invited to join Klubski Maraton by Radio Študent, a short club tour through Slovenia, which gave the guys a wider media exposure in their home country. Two new songs were recorded for the Klubski Maraton compilation.
(Later) the band slowly started working on their second full length, which they plan to record in July 2008 at Kramasonik Studios in Zagreb with Hrvoje Nikšić. In april 2008 the last Binary Endings cd was sold, which means the disk is currently sold out.
May 2008 featured the online re-release of Binary Endings via the polish label 49manekinow. You can download the disc for free at 49manekinow.net.
