College Potatoes Inc

College Potatoes is a nonprofit organisation registered in Massachusetts. College Potatoes coordinates a statewide nonmentary technology gifting program for poor or disabled adult students through reusing recently discarded laptops, tablets, and smartphones. The organisation offers free pickup in Boston to collect devices preventing toxins and plastics discarded from recycling centers from reaching landfills and encouraging students in their educational pursuits.

Services

The organisation offers laptop, tablet, and smartphone repair or upgrade services to generate grant revenue. Some repairs include broken screens, dents, malfunctioning components and part replacement at low prices or repairs with customer supplied replacement parts. Donations that can't be used as grants or recycled into the company are disassembled, tested, or reformatted before being sold as individual working parts.

Volunteer System

College Potatoes gives responsible, serious, perseverant, students a chance at a free education through a placed reward system. They also offer options to "reserve rewards for other family members."

Each step of their system is classified by student designations as follows:

Freshy (New Volunteers)

Training period and fundraising guidance.

Softy (Trained Volunteer)

Benefits: Free Laptop, headphones, and two accessories or a $80 gas card and college supplies.

Junior (Experienced Volunteer)

Raised more than $5000 or volunteers more than 20/hrs a week

Benefits: Free Cellphone of Your Choice or a generic Cellphone and 5 College Supplies/Books of your choosing. (Can be reserved for next year or child)

Senior (Professional Volunteer)

Raised more than $10,000

Benefits: Initiation into Internship Preparations, Free Company Phone, Cellphone Service, Laptop, College Books, and 2000 usd tuition

Intern

Raised more than: $20,000 or Volunteered More Than 100 Hours and Completed Senior Training or Attending College Internship Class.
Benefits: $2,500 Tuition, $600 for Food and Supplies, Pre-Employee Training.

Employee

Raised More than $15,000 or Volunteered more than 400 hours. Completed Pre-Employee Training
Benefits: Full Health Insurance, $12-$30/hr 40+hrs/wk, Night Class Tuition up to $20,000, Books, and $600 for Food.

History

College Potatoes was created to promote social responsibility and offer a respectable cause for less fortunate students in Massachusetts. The organisation was created September 23, 2017 by a disabled Lasell College undergraduate.

Sponsors

Through its development, Lasell College, Panera Bread, and Waltham recycling centers have contributed and awarded grants to College Potatoes Inc in November and September of 2017.
