History
In the late 1970s, the Meadows Foundation in Dallas recognized a significant need for staff development and management assistance to charitable organizations. In 1980, with the support of other local funders, Meadows provided The Seed funding to establish the Center for Nonprofit Management. Today, the Center receives support from donations, grants, fees for services and annual membership dues at a minimal cost and is a United Way affiliate.
NASHVILLE
The Center for Nonprofit Management in Nashville, Tennessee (www.cnm.org), works to create, sustain and recognize nonprofit excellence. With more than 700 nonprofit member organizations from across Middle Tennessee, CNM holds some 120 workshops and conducts AbOUT 150 consultations each year. Additional services include executive searches, online job postings and a popular blog. While most services are in Middle Tennessee, parts of its consulting practice are national in scope.
Its annual Salute to Excellence Awards attracts more than 1000 people each autumn to see awards with more than $150,000 in prize money given to the best organizations in 9 categories. Each spring, the organization hosts a conference for nonprofit leaders featuring a nationally known keynote speaker and in-depth sessions on current topics.
The organization has been recognized by The White House for its outstanding collaborations with Vanderbilt, Belmont and Lipscomb Universities. Through these partnerships, nonprofit professionals have the opportunity to earn advanced degrees or specialized certificates.
