Chithra Ramakrishnan
Chithra Ramakrishnan is an Indian-born vocalist, Bharatanatyam dancer and fellow of the Royal Society of Arts living in Birmingham, UK. She is also the founder and artistic Director of ShruthiUK, a Solihull-based non-profit South Asian arts and culture organisation. She pioneered the British Carnatic Choir - the first of its kind in the country.
As a vocalist, she prominently sings in the Carnatic music genre. She also sings in Tamil, Hindi and Sanskrit languages and has released albums in those languages.
Background
Ramakrishnan spent her childhood in Lalgudi. She had to move to Chennai as a 10-year old and then to Iraq two years later with her parents. Eventually she settled in the UK with her husband.
She has an MBA in Human Resources and a PhD in Management from the US.
Awards
- Finalist at the British Asian Awards and the English Asian Awards in 2016.
- According to her website, she is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
