Chaoyi UAV

Chaoyi UAVs are Chinese micro air vehicles (MAV)s developed by Beijing Chao-Yi (meaning Super Wing) Technology Research Institute Co., Ltd. (Chaoyi, 北京超翼技术研究所有限公司), some of which has entered service with Chinese law enforcement agencies.

X401 Whirlwind

X401 Whirlwind (Xuan-Feng or Xuanfeng, 旋风) is a quadrotor developed by Chaoyi. X401 is constructed of carbon fiber and can be deployed in less than a minute. Replacement of battery can be done within thirty seconds. Specification:

  • Empty weight: 1.75 kg
  • Max takeoff weight: 2.6 kg
  • Cruise speed: 5 – 50 km/hr
  • Relative ceiling: 1 km
  • Remote control radius: 2 km (can be expanded to 10 km)
  • Navigational accuracy: 2.5 m

  • Operating temperature: -40 to 60°C
  • Relative humidity allowed for operation: 5 – 95%
  • Endurance: 33 min w/ 200 g payload, 25 min with 500 g payload

X601 Photographer

X601 Photographer (She-Ying-Shi or Sheyingshi, 摄影师) is a hexacopter developed by Chaoyi as a larger version of X401 Whirlwind, and this is the model that entered serive with Chinese law enforcement as X601J. Specification:

  • Empty weight: 3.5 kg
  • Max takeoff weight: 7 kg
  • Payload: 3.5 kg
  • Cruise speed: 5 – 50 km/hr
  • Relative ceiling: 1 km
  • Remote control radius: 2 km (can be expanded to 5 km)
  • Navigational accuracy: 2.5 m
  • Max wind scale allowed for operation: 6
  • Storage temperature: -50 to 70°C
  • Operating temperature: -20 to 50°C
  • Relative humidity allowed for operation: 5 – 95%
  • Endurance: 30 min
