Business Strategy Game
The Business Strategy Game by McGraw-Hill Irwin is a Business simulation game.
It was first developed in 1990 to help educate students in the field of Business Strategy. BSG has 8 versions, the most recent being BSG 8 2009 EDition which features online interaction with players either in the class room or all around the world.
The Strategy Game focuses upon aspects such as production, distribution, sales forecasting, finance, marketing, celebrity endorsements, private label operations, corporate citizenship and lastly internet marketing.
Every player makes decisions in their respective companies which is submitted before a due date in which the game "turns" one year. The next financial year shows who has met investor expectations or who is clearly the most profitable in the industry.
The five criteria which companies are ranked on are earnings per share, credit rating, STOCK price, return on equity, and image rating.
The Business Strategy Game is used in many post secondary Bachelor of Business programs in North America. It is usually a cornerstone assignment in a strategic management class. Those who are able to beat their entire class are crowned Industry Champions and are invited to attend the Business Strategy Invitational (BSI). Roughly 8% of all students who play BSG become Industry Champions. Those who win the BSI (Less than half a percent of all students who have played BSG), become Grand Champions which is the highest level of accomplishment in the Business Strategy Game.
The Business Strategy Game can also test strategic management concepts through BSG Quiz 1 and BSG Quiz 2. Common BSG quiz answers need to be calculated, one form of a question that needs to be numerically determined is based around exchange rates.
Please note that increasing models dramatically is not necessairily a good strategy in this game as it increases costs on a per unit basis more than it generates demand.
