Burkina Faso–Togo relations are the bilateral diplomatic relations between Burkina Faso and Togo. The two countries share a border measuring 131 km in length.
History
The two countries have developed friendly relations. In 2012, the governments of Burkina Faso and Togo signed an agreement to improve transport links between the countries. Under the agreement, the Togolese government committed to developing transport infrastructure on its territory and constructing 150 km of roads, while the Burkina Faso government agreed to modernize a 158 km section of its highway. The implementation of the agreement created numerous jobs in both countries. The OECD provided financial support for the project.
On 26 February 2017, the Burkina Faso Ministry of Health notified the World Health Organization of a confirmed case of Lassa fever in a hospital in northern Togo. A pregnant woman had been hospitalized in Burkina Faso with a fever and suffered a miscarriage after discharge. After seeking medical attention again, she was transferred to a hospital in Mango, Togo, where she died on 3 March 2017. Her body was sent to the capital for examination, which confirmed Lassa fever as the cause of death. Seven people in Togo and 135 people in Burkina Faso who had contact with her were identified and monitored.
